just pumpking around

Ahhh upstate NY, home sweet home. Anyone who visits will automatically say that we have our own unique identity (mostly centered around AMAZING food and drink). The Saranac Brewery is one of these treasures and is situated right in downtown Utica. Its old-fashioned structure takes you back to another era with a modern day feel, inviting everyone through its doors that has specialty beers and sodas flowing through its pipes (well, kind of). It all started in 1888 by a German-born immigrant named Francis Xavier Matt (or F.X. Matt) who became the brewmaster. Joined by his sons after the Prohibition and now having served beer for over a century, the brewery has earned the reputation as one of the most respected specialty brewers in the country, producing a variety of distinctive, flavorful beers. Over the decades, the Matt family has expanded the roles of the brewery into becoming a symbol of our area. They host an annual “Boilermaker” 15K Road Race that brings in over 14,000 runners from all over the world (beer for the after party, of course), hosts “Saranac Thursdays” by bringing in live bands every Thursday night during the summer (such as the Dropkick Murphy’s, an awesome Irish band from Boston) and gives tours to visitors that are interested in seeing their craft. The Saranac Pumpkin Ale is one of the official tastes of my hometown and a must for the autumn season. Take a sip and enjoy this specialty. I already can’t wait to for you & i to enjoy our next Saranac beer!
